An active, outdoorsy family wanted a vacation home with easy access to backcountry skiing and mountain bike trails. Their home is set atop a rocky bluff and oriented to capture panoramic views of the Sherwin Mountain range and iconic Mammoth Rock. Using the sloping site to our advantage, the house terraces down the hill, with living and dining spaces set high above the ground in the trees. Private suites for visiting friends are discreetly tucked below. Cast-in-place concrete walls anchor the house to the site, while upper volumes are clad in an earthy palette inspired by the surrounding mountains.
