A newly engaged couple asked us to expand their pristine Cliff May modern ranch to accommodate their combined families. Respecting the original architecture, we conceived a new primary suite with private den and a spa-like bath overlooking a new pool. We raised the ceiling in an enclosed corridor and topped it with a long skylight open to views of the surrounding tree canopy. Alongside the house we designed a split level ADU and freestanding gym pavilion carefully set amidst the mature oaks. The new structures draw upon the original material palette of slump block walls, board and batten siding, and split stake wood ceilings. A new swimming pool and cantilevered lounging deck expand outdoor entertaining space for family and friends.
